Lyssa is a Realtor, Registered Nurse (35+ years), and Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES®).
I work with home buyers and home sellers from listing, price negotiations, inspections, and closing.
Moving is a very emotional ordeal; it can take a physiological & psychological toll on anyone. Keeping you or your loved ones safe and in good health is a priority. I am a dedicated professional in both real estate and elder needs, to ensure a seamless process when considering a move.
As an experienced Real Estate professional, I am familiar with the needs and challenges faced by the 55+ crowd. My role is to act as the single point of contact to help those considering a move. Every day, I work with a team of top professionals dedicated to the real estate industry to enhance those services. I will get you or your loved one into a new home safely and tailored to their individual needs.
Even if you and your loved one are not ready to make a change yet, but are looking for some adaptations or suggestions to age in place, my experience as a registered nurse is also a valuable resource.
I also specialize in helping first-time home buyers. I conduct regular training seminars for new home buyers. My job is done when you walk through the door of your prospective home and a light bulb goes off and you say “This is what I want I want, and this is the price I will pay!”
What got you into this type of business?
I have an affinity for the elders, and am rooted in the desire to help others. I know Real Estate and understand the needs of the aging population. I live in both worlds, nursing and real estate. For years I have been told that these are 2 different worlds. I don’t see it that way. The elderly and their children deserve someone who they can trust, and who can handle the physical and emotional challenges that can happen when moving.
I have always loved being around older people. Ever since I was young I would always go to my Nonna’s house just to hang out with her. I loved the way she cooked and her home was so comfortable. We had a very special bond. She lived to the age of 92 at home with family surrounding her.
Now, 40 years later, I am caring for my elderly mother at home with services to keep both of us happy and comfortable. Both instances have provided me with an affinity for caring for the elderly, which launched my nursing career. As a Realtor, I see the stresses that families and senior parents go through with moving. The financial, logistical, and emotional issues involved are overwhelming at any age.
What do you love about it?
I love talking with seniors and learning their stories. I enjoy taking the time to get to know each client and their situation. Seeing a smile on their faces and knowing I had something to do with it is the best feeling in the world. Selling a senior’s home can be more complicated since there are a number of unique issues and tough decisions, along with a number of different people involved.
I am the thread that ties everything together and help guide and protect my clients through the process.
Dealing with End-of-Life Issues
Being a nurse for 35 years I have seen a lot of death planning in advance and know that having your wishes understood is key to a peaceful passing, on all sides. Death is inevitable; it's your choice if you want to be in denial or acceptance of your last moments with your loved ones. I will share my mother Vicki’s story. She died peacefully at home in an in-law apartment at 94, with her grandchildren around her. It was during the initial COVID pandemic. She had end-stage Parkinson's disease and was getting more frail and weak. It came to a point I had to ask her if she really wanted to go to the hospital if she got worse. We all knew if she did we would never see her again.
She begrudgingly agreed to hospice because she thought she would live forever. We told her if she wanted to change her mind at any time she could. We already had legal considerations such as health care proxy, power of attorney, and executor of will in place. After she signed on for hospice she started deteriorating rapidly and died 8 days later.
Looking back on this whole ordeal she felt comfortable going at that point. It was like she finally got the okay from all of us to go. Have the conversation sooner than later, it will save you and your loved ones a lot of heartache.
I have resources for your individual needs. Do not hesitate to call.
